Elements and Performance Criteria
- Make pre-event preparations
- Job requirements are determined from event organisation documentation, including category rules and supplementary regulations
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements are identified and prepared and checked for serviceability
- Conditions on the day are prepared for
- Pre-event briefing session is attended, and own role and responsibilities confirmed
- Prepare allocated post
- Location of allocated post is confirmed and other team members are identified
- Location is assessed for risks and emergency escape route is planned according to category rules, supplementary regulations and safety requirements
- Type of communication to be used is confirmed
- Flag set is checked to ensure it is complete and flags are laid out ready for use, or signal lights are checked for correct operation
- Signal boards and related equipment are checked and prepared for operation
- Hazards associated with the work are identified and risks are managed
- Communication system is checked for operation according to manufacturer procedures, category rules and supplementary regulations
- Use flags and signals during event
- Communication is maintained with chief marshal and other official personnel as required and according to category rules and supplementary regulations
- Event conditions are monitored and flags and signals responded to and used as required according to category rules and supplementary regulations
- Incidents and observations from event are recorded for inclusion in written report according to category rules and supplementary regulations
- Complete work processes
- Communication equipment is checked, maintained and returned according to category rules and supplementary regulations
- Marshalling post is cleaned and secured
- Written report is prepared for chief marshal according to category rules and supplementary regulations
- Post-meeting debriefing session is attended
